JOE MONTELIONE

EROS: A CONCERT WITH WORDS

THE EXPERIENCE

Released on July 1, 2019.

I met Joe during my final year at Florida State University. He hired bassist Robin Sherman and I to learn a show of his and travel with his group to Wyoming to perform. Joe and I kept in touch and reconnected in Orlando as he continued his work as an educator. Joe brought me in for drum clinics and for shows he was booking. ‘Eros’ is his debut album of a musical he created and it was an honor to get the called to record drums for many of the songs. The session took place at Starkelake Studios in Orlando, FL.

This record was an interesting challenge because, like many musicals, the musical content incorporates a variety of genres to tell a story. I was called on to play styles the spanned from second-line New Orleans grooves to classical snare and percussion elements. I gladly took on the challenge and it helped me to grow as a musician.

I am the drummer or percussionist on “World of Hope”, “Red Herring”, “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free”, “Trivial Pursuits”, “Virgen De Le Macarena”, “When She Loved Me”, “L’esprit De La Trompette”, “One Last Prayer”, “Take a Chance”. You can listen to this song and all the records I’ve been a part of on the playlist below!
