THE EXPERIENCE

This was easily one of my favorite sessions ever. It was the first time I was sent drum-less demos with the full creative freedom of writing the drum part for an artist’s new music. The call came from producer and engineer John LaRosa who led the session at TSM Studios in Longwood, FL.

I remember John walking into the live room before each song and asking, “So what do you have for this one?”. I spent the week listening to the references and experimenting with approaches. I had not met the artist so I came up with a few options in case the ideas I wanted to present first didn’t go over well. My initial approach to each tune ended up bringing the type of creative spice that both Austin and John were looking for.
