Gerald Law II is an artist, composer, and musician. Law’s scoring approach brings a unique sound driven by his background as a drummer and cellist, combining rhythm and melody in an inspiring way. His work includes contributions to ‘SMILES’ (comedy-drama web series by Laura Hatfield) and ‘Dellusionally Ari’ (comedy-romance short film by Henry Severe), his latest release, Who We Are (album, 2025), and ongoing debuts as a member of the Central Florida Composer’s Forum.
Law’s first releases came in 2018 as a series of singles and since then, he has continued to contribute to the music industry as an arranger and producer covering various styles. His self-released albums were written as two ongoing series titled From G. to You and Sensory Vibes, respectively. From G. to You is a series of dedications conveyed through jazz, R&B, and lullabies for children. On the other hand, the Sensory Vibes series is an exploration of electronic textures featuring Sensory Percussion’s drum sensors.

SELECTED COMPOSIONS
Premiered on May 27, 2026 for A Loom, A Fence, A Wire, A Thread: The Art of Mär Martinez.
The violin and cello are utilized as a nod to the santur (santoor). The approach showcases these two instruments swapping roles throughout the piece, with each serving as the drone (root or fifth) and melody at some point. The piece alternates between two time signatures (7/4 and 6/4) and there are moments where both instruments “reset” as the drone, complimenting each other’s rhythmic pattern. The first half of the piece features the pizzicato technique, leaning towards the sound of the mallets striking the santur. The text was created from the writings of Mär in her research and accounts of her experience. To connect this piece with her work, it was important to me to draw inspiration as if I was present with her. Diving into her words and photos were my way to visualize her journey.

Reflection is a valuable tool in our search for progress. As we look inward, it is also our perspective on the world around us that compliments our growth. This piece is inspired by the conversation with self. What is our contribution? Are we helping or hurting those around us? Who do we want to be? The mirror is often where those questions can be met with honesty. Nature, in this case, serves as our reflector.
