MUSIC HEALS, EDUCATION EMPOWERS

AROUND THE KIT

There is always more to learn and this program is built to keep the desire to be a student of the craft forever flowing.

This concept stems from my idea of what it means to be a good musician, specifically a drummer. Just like being a well-rounded drummer is based on your efficiency around the entire kit, the way we play and interpret the music is based on what happens in our everyday lives and experience. We’re constantly influenced by our environment; because of this, the program is structured around building complete drummers, which involves: skill, knowledge, efficiency around the kit, clarity of ideas, as well as the character traits of a great musician.

A few concepts that I instill in my students are:

  1. Keeping great time.

  2. Establishing strong grooves.

  3. Playing with clarity.

  4. The importance of reading music.

  5. Professionalism.

  6. Maintaining discipline.

  7. Most importantly, having fun!

My aim is not to have my students play like me, but to shape each lesson based on their musical desires, while providing them with the foundational tools I believe are necessary to excel in any musical environment.

SUCCESS STORIES

PATRICIA CARNOVALI

Gerald has been teaching my son to play the drums for over a year. My son is 10 years old and has autism. He also is non verbal. Gerald is amazingly patient with him. He is flexible with his lesson and tries different approaches to keep him engaged. Gerald is always very pleasant, caring, and truly enjoys what he does. There are many people who would not even give a child like my son a chance. We have been blessed with finding Gerald. He is everything a teacher should be.

BRUCE GREEN
BAND DIRECTOR (JONES HIGH SCHOOL)

Gerald is a world class musician, teacher and educator. When working with my students he was and is always prepared. Students were engaged and responsive during each lesson. Students looked forward to Gerald’s knowledge, craft and eagerness to share. They would come to class with anticipation that Mr. Law was coming to class today to drop some knowledge.

ZORAYA RAMOS

Gerald Law is a wonderful teacher. He is very patient and kind in the way he teaches. I have seen a huge improvement in my daughter in the couple of months she has been with him. Thank you very much Gerald Law. God bless you and your talent.
